[Tourist Spots]
◐ Songdo Sea Cable Car
Busan Air Cruise was built to revive the reputation of Songdo Beach, the first public beach in Korea opened nearly 30 years ago. Thirty-nine cabins, including crystal cabins with transparent floors, travel over the ocean between Songnim Park on the east and Amnam Park on the west. You can enjoy the thrill of being in the middle of the sea, as well as Songdo Beach, Busan Yeongdo and Namhang Bridge, Songdo Coastal Dulle Road, and the surfacing cliffs.
◐ Gamcheon Culture Villiage
Gamcheon Culture Villiage was formed by refugees of the Korean war who built their houses in staircase-fashion on the foothills of a coastal mountain. In 2009, students, artists, and residents decorated the village as a part of the Village Art Project, and the town grew into a leading tourist attraction of Busan since then. Artworks and mural paintings turn the backward alley of Gamcheon into an animated village, attracting people’s attention along with various souvenir shops and workshops where you can stop by to attend the experience programs and create your own souvenir. The artistic atmosphere lives on in the alleys where the village of pastel-colored houses is beautifully lined up like a maze.
◐ Arte Museum Busan
The world's largest Arte Museum is a global immersive media art exhibition that creates new exhibits in each region under the theme of ‘Eternal Nature’, spreading both domestically and internationally. It is known for showcasing works that incorporate the nature and cultural heritage of each region. It's also known as the best photo spot at Arte Museum Busan. Other vibrant media artworks themed around flowers, waterfalls, waves, jungles, and the moon are also on display to delight your senses.
◐ Gukje Market
Following the Korean War, refugees who fled to Busan set up stalls in order to make a living by selling smuggled or imported products, which developed into Gukje Market (gukje meaning "international" in Korean) of today. Gukje Market is one of Korea’s largest markets. The market's alleyways are lined with stalls selling diverse goods, particularly machinery tools, kitchenware, and clothing. To the market's right is an alleyway lined with charity stores, and to the left is Kkangtong Market.
◐ Jagalchi Fish Market
Jagalchi Market, located on the seaside road in Busan's Jung-gu, is Korea's largest seafood market, selling both live and dried fish. After the Korean War, the market solidified itself as a fish market. This market represents Busan and is famous throughout the country. Visitors can eat fresh raw fish right at the market. Even nowadays visitors can see women selling mackerel, sea squirts (ascidians) and other seafoods on wooden boxes along the road outside of the market and along the shore.
◐ Haedong Yonggungsa Temple
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is situated on the coast of the north-eastern portion of Busan. This superb attraction offers visitors the rare find of a temple along the shore line as most temples in Korea are located in the mountains. Other special sites at the temple are the 108 stairs and stone lanterns lining the rocky landscape.Midway down the 108 steps one can stop and enjoy the calming sounds of the waves, and view the majestic sunrise.
◐ Jukseong 'Dream (K-Drama)' Filming Set
Located in Gijang-gun, Busan, Jukseong Church is a drama set built for the SBS drama "Dream (2009)." The drama aired a long time ago and is forgotten, but this well-made space has become a must-see for travelers visiting Gijang. The inside of the cathedral is operated as a gallery, and visitors can encounter a pleasant surprise when there is an ongoing exhibition. Perhaps thanks to its location in a small fishing village, it retains a unique atmosphere. The seaside landscape is like a painting from the Middle Ages. The white foam breaking over the rocks contrasts with the red roof of the church and catches the attention of those who visit this place at a glance. The place where most people wait in line at Jukseong Church is a photo spot decorated with a picture frame structure. The blue sea and sky in the frame create a beautiful background.
◐ Nurimaru APEC House
Located on Dongbaekseom Island, an island of camellia trees, Nurimaru APEC House was the venue for the 2005 APEC Summit. Since then, it has been used as a memorial hall and a conference center. This three-story building is a contemporary recreation of a traditional Korean pavilion. The roof is inspired by the slope of Dongbaekseom Island, while the interior design features visual representations of traditional Korean culture. The terrace provides a great view of the Oryukdo Islets, Gwangandaegyo Bridge, and Dalmaji Hill. Visitors to Nurimaru APEC House can enjoy both the beauty of nature and the contemporary design of the building.
Haeundae Blueline Park is an eco-friendly redevelopment of the former railroad facilities of the Donghae Nambu Line, a 4.8-kilometer-long stretch from Haeundae’s Mipo to Cheongsapo to Songjeong. It forms a part of the new core of the Haeundae Tourism Special Zone, an international tourist region in Busan that operates the Haeundae Beach Train and Haeundae Sky Capsule along Haeundae’s spectacular coastal scenery. Haeundae Blueline Park consists of Haeundae Beach Train, a sightseeing train that serves as both a transportation option and a tourist train that runs round-trip from Mipo to Songjeong via Cheongsapo along the beautiful coastal scenery of East Busan; and Haeundae Sky Capsule, a romantic four-seater automatic capsule train that runs a 2-kilometer rail from 7 to 10 meters above sea level, along the coast from Mipo to Cheongsapo.
◐ Hyeopjae Beach
Hyeopjae Beach, encircled by lush pine forests, seamlessly extends into Geumneung Beach. The beach features smooth white sand, shallow waters, and a gentle slope ideal for swimming. Camping is available at Songlim, along with various amenities. The view of the emerald-colored sea and the distant Biyangdo Island offers magnificent scenery, with the sunsets being particularly breathtaking.
◐ Bomnal Cafe in Aewol (K-Drama Filming Location) & Handam Coastal Trail Trekking
Bomnal café, the first to open on Handam Beach in Aewol, is celebrated for its Jeju hallabong ade. Known for its beautiful sea views, visitors can enjoy their drinks surrounded by colorful murals and charming gift items, all against the backdrop of the sea. The café also features a gift shop filled with Jeju souvenirs.
Handam Coastal Trail, also known as the Gwakgeum Olle Trail, is established along the shore from Aewol Port to Gwakjigwamul Beach. It beautifully harmonizes with the surrounding landscape. The trail runs 1.2 kilometers and visitors can walk on this coastal trail as waves crash right next to them. It is one of the "hidden gems of Jeju city" selected by the city in 2009 when 31 famous spots in Jeju-si other than the existing tourist attractions were chosen and announced. Uniquely-shaped rocks made by cooled and hardened lava grab the attention of passersby, and the trail that continuously winds along the beach featuring black rocks adds an element of excitement. Another appealing point is that it is a great place to watch the beautiful sunset as it is located on the west side of Jeju Island.
◐ Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road
Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road, which continues along the western tip of Jeju Island, presents a view of windmills lined up along the road from an offshore wind farm. The view of white windmills and emerald-colored sea along the winding coastline offer a pleasant fall scenery. There are many other things that unfold before one's eyes as while looking out upon the blue sea, like Chagwido Island afar. The road is well-known for its beautiful sunset so it is a great place to take pictures and watch the setting sun. Along the coastal road is a trail named Eco Experience. It features a Kelp grouper statue, Wondam Experience Site and a rest area where visitors can take selfies with many different backdrops. The observatory located in the middle of the trail is relatively quiet and visitors are recommended to head towards the observatory after taking a few photos on their walk up from Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road.
◐ Gimnyeong Seongsegihaebyeon Beach & Hamdeok Seoubonghaebyeon Beach
The clear waters that are highlighted with cobalt-blue and the clean white sand of Gimnyeong Seongsegihaebyeon Beach steal the hearts of visitors every year. The beach is also popular with fishermen, who enjoy rope fishing from the rocks. This area is known to be good for catching striped beakfish and spotty belly greenlings. Not far from the beach is Manjanggul Cave, which offers a welcome escape from the daytime heat.
Hamdeok Beach is located along Jeju Olle Trail Course 19. It is also referred to as Hamdeok Seoubonghaebyeon Beach due to the volcanic cone nearby. Located just 20 kilometers from Jeju International Airport, the beach is famous for its great scenery of emerald-blue waters, tall palm trees, and white sandy shore. The beach is considered one of Jeju's top three beaches.
Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, which is 180m above sea level, erupted underwater in the ocean about 5,000 years ago. This makes it a very rare case among the many craters in Jeju Island. Seongsan Ilchulbong has long been considered one of the top scenic destinations in Korea. A large crater, formed by the hot lava mixing with cold ocean water, is located at the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone. The crater is about 600 meters in diameter and 90 meters deep. It attracts millions of visitors a year, many of whom climb to the top for the breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean, Udo Island, Hallasan Mountain, and the volcanic landscape of the east. It was designated a Natural Monument on July 19, 2000 and subsequently recognized for its outstanding geological value by UNESCO on July 2, 2007, when it was added to the World Natural Heritage List.
◐ Delekoomda in Seongsan (Studio Cafe / Photo Spot)
There's no extra charge for admission, but you have to drink at the cafe at the entrance to get an entrance bracelet. There are tables and sofas installed indoors and outdoors for each theme, so there are many comfortable drinking and relaxing spaces and a photo zone that even makes that space into a studio. Everywhere is a photo zone, but there are places where there are many people. If you go up to a castle-like place, there are stairs in heaven. Each studio has a different theme, which is well-made and decorated to take pictures. Some places remind us of birch forests. The interior is decorated with beautiful spaces.
◐ Songdang Dongwha Village
Jeju Fairy Tale Village is designed with Jeju trees, Jeju stones, Jeju culture and myths, and flowers of the four seasons as its theme, and is the most Jeju-like park in Jeju. The park was created on a site of approximately 99,000 m2 using Jeju trees such as zelkova and crape myrtle trees that are hundreds of years old, as well as 5,000 S-grade natural stones formed through volcanic activity hundreds of thousands of years ago as basic materials. In addition, the largest Starbucks in Korea is located here, so it is very popular regardless of weekdays or weekends. Every summer, hydrangeas bloom in full bloom, turning the entire village into a splendid flower garden. The various colors of hydrangeas blend together to create a landscape that looks like a scene from a fairy tale. The rural experience learning center was established through the fragrance experience center, and there are restaurants where you can taste Jeju's flavors such as Jay Farm Meat Restaurant, Mr. Milk (Seong Isidol Ranch), and Songdang Sandeul Restaurant (local restaurant), as well as Starbucks, Paris Baguette, Ghibli's official Corico Cafe, and Ghibli's official Acorn Forest, which serve as tourist attractions and have a view of the park.
◐ Saryeoni Forest Path
Saryeoni Forest Trail is a forest walking trail that cuts through the dense Japanese cedar forest growing between Mulchat Oreum and Saryeoni Oreum. While the vast majority of the trees growing here are Japanese cedar, visitors can also see Japanese oak, birch, snowbell trees, and cypress trees along this 550-meter-long trail. The forest trail is known as one of Jeju's top 31 hidden attractions, and is popular among tourists who love hiking, because the nature of the forest hasn’t been tampered with.
O’sulloc opened on Sept. 1, 2001, and is located at the entrance of Seogwang Tea Garden in Jeju Island. It has since become a major attraction, with visitors coming from all over to enjoy the green panoramic tea fields in which to take many great photos. You can also buy loose teas and related products, including delicious green tea ice cream! The building itself is the materialization of green tea cup, and it is a place of culture, where tradition and modern east and west are harmonized, and a nature-friendly resting area. O’sulloc has the 'O’ as in the interjection Oh!, the origin of sulloc, only sulloc, of sulloc cha. This is a great place to experience everything about Sulloc Cha and to get a better understanding the traditional tea culture of Korea and green tea.
◐ Yongmeori Coast
Yongmeorihaean Coast is a hydrovolcano rocky shore formed by the accumulation of volcanic debris erupted from three craters under the sea and is a sandstone bed created by layers of sand that have been deposited for tens of millions of years. The Yongmeori Coast got its name because the beach looks like a dragon that is jumping into the ocean with its head raised (“Yong” means dragon and “Meori” means head in Korean). The oddly shaped cliffs created by the waves provide a magnificent scene. The shore platform by the sea serves as a walking trail. Along the road down to the seashore is the Hamel Monument, in remembrance of Hamel who drifted to this place.
◐ Cheong Wa Dae (Presidential Blue House)
The signature markings of the Presidential Residence of Cheong Wa Dae are its blue tiles on the Main Office; it is the first thing to catch one's attention upon viewing the premises. Approximately 150 thousand tiles compose the roof of the Main Office. The blue tiles and the smoothly curving roofline blend beautifully with Bugaksan Mountain in the backdrop.
◐ Gyeongbokgung Palace & watch the changing of the guard ceremony
Gyeongbokgung Palace was built in 1395 as the official palace of the Joseon dynasty by Yi Seong-gye, the future King Taejo and founder of the new regime. Gyeongbokgung Palace is arguably the most beautiful and is the largest of all five palaces. Many Joseon kings were crowned here. Gyeongbokgung Palace retains the original Gyeonghoeru Pavilion, a prime example of Joseon architecture, and the Hyangwonjeong Pavilion and pond. The sculptures in the Geunjeongjeon Hall exemplify Joseon-era sculpture techniques.
◐ The Garden of Morning Calm
The Garden of Morning Calm, nestled against the splendid backdrop of Chungnyeongsan Mountain, is a horticultural haven that blends the essence of Korean beauty with a diversity of themed gardens. Designed by Professor Han Sang-kyeong from Sahmyook University, this arboretum, which opened in May 1996, offers a tranquil retreat with forest paths and a dense pine nut grove for those escaping the bustle of the city. Its twenty two thematic gardens are interwoven with well-kept grassy expanses, vibrant flower displays, and inviting nature trails. Among these, the Sunken Garden stands out, artfully representing the Korean Peninsula and its stunning landscapes using a rich array of blooming flowers, capturing the admiration of those who visit. Beyond this, the arboretum is home to an impressive collection of plant life, featuring more than 5,000 different species, including more than 300 varieties native to Baekdusan Mountain.
